In Switzerland, we found a postcard-perfect scene at every turn, made even more beautiful by the amazing weather we enjoyed. Our journey was a mix of exhilarating activities and serene moments, from high-altitude hikes to peaceful boat trips on stunning lakes. We were captivated by the iconic Matterhorn, a view that truly lives up to its reputation. In Grindelwald, we experienced the thrill of a lifetime with adventurous activities and breathtaking views of the majestic Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks. The world’s steepest cogwheel railway took us to the summit of Mount Pilatus, where the panoramic views were nothing short of incredible. Our trip was filled with unforgettable moments of natural beauty and adventure.

Arriving in Zurich and travelling to Interlaken
After a busy weekend exploring the key sights of London, we kicked off our Swiss adventure with a flight to Zurich, where we spent a night at the Movenpick Zurich Airport hotel. Despite being a Movenpick hotel, they didn’t offer any free ice cream! The next morning, we boarded the incredible Interlaken Express from the Zurich Main Station, ready to soak in the breathtaking landscapes on our way to Interlaken.

Harder Kulm | 1,323m
One of the most magical evenings of our trip was spent at Harder Kulm, high above Interlaken. We rode a funicular to the summit and were immediately greeted by breathtaking views of the Bernese Alps, including the famous peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, as well as the turquoise waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. For dinner, we indulged in a delicious Swiss cheese fondue at the Panorama Restaurant, savoring the traditional dish while enjoying the spectacular scenery. The atmosphere was made even more special by live folk music, which included the traditional and captivating sound of the alphorn.

Gornergrat | 3,089m
Riding the Gornergrat Railway to see the Matterhorn was a definite highlight of our trip. We made our way to Zermatt, a charming car-free village, and boarded the scenic cogwheel train for an unparalleled ascent. From the top of Gornergrat, we were treated to a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Matterhorn, the Gorner Glacier, and many other stunning peaks. The adventure continued with a memorable hike toward Riffelsee lake.

Grindelwald First | 2,184m
We took a short train ride from Interlaken to Grindelwald, a journey that offered beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Once in Grindelwald, we boarded a scenic gondola that took us up to Grindelwald First. We immediately headed for the First Cliff Walk, an incredible suspension bridge clinging to the side of a mountain, which gave us a truly heart-pounding and unforgettable perspective of the Eiger North Face and the surrounding Alps.
At Grindelwald First, we had our hearts set on the First Flyer, a thrilling zip line that sends you soaring through the mountain air. While we had to wait in line for about an hour, the time flew by as we were completely mesmerized by the stunning scenery around us. The crisp mountain air and incredible vistas built the anticipation for our ride. Once we were securely harnessed and ready to go, the excitement was immense. We flew down the 800-meter steel cable, reaching speeds up to 84 km/h. With nothing but open skies above and below, the feeling was one of limitless freedom as we soared 50 meters above the alpine meadows. It was an unforgettable adrenaline rush as the wind rushed past and the jaw-dropping views of the Eiger, Wetterhorn, and Grindelwald valley unfolded below us.
After the heart-pounding adventure at Grindelwald First, we continued our day with more thrills at Pfingstegg. We took a short walk from the Grindelwald station to the Pfingstegg cable car, which carried us up the mountain in just 10 minutes. At the top, the main attraction was the toboggan run, a thrilling 736-meter-long ride that winds through the forest. The ride lasted about five minutes and was an exhilarating way to experience the beautiful landscape from a new perspective. The Pfingstegg experience offered a fun and exciting end to our day, complementing the high-flying adventures we had at Grindelwald First.

Thun & Bern
A day trip to Thun and Bern! Our journey began with a picturesque train ride from Interlaken to the charming town of Thun. We explored its medieval heart, strolled across the historic wooden bridges, and took in the vibrant atmosphere of Rathausplatz, the town square. After a quick stop for a delightful picnic at Schloss Schadau with breathtaking lakefront views, we hopped on a train to Bern, Switzerland’s enchanting capital. The city’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, with its winding arcades and beautiful fountains, felt like a journey back in time. After exploring its medieval heart, we boarded a boat for a relaxing cruise on the deep blue waters of Lake Thun. The boat glided past green hills, romantic lakeside villages, and historic castles, all set against the imposing backdrop of the Bernese Alps.

Mount Pilatus | 2,128m
We took the world’s steepest cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad to the summit, an incredible engineering feat with a maximum gradient of 48%. At the top, we were greeted with spectacular panoramic views of the Swiss Alps, Lake Lucerne, and the surrounding valleys. We explored the summit, walking the short Dragon Trail and visiting the observation decks for photos.
The fun continued on our descent. We took a scenic cable car ride down to Fräkmüntegg, where we enjoyed an exhilarating toboggan ride on a 1,350-meter-long track that winds through the forest. The day concluded with a gondola ride to Kriens and a bus trip back to Lucerne, completing our “Golden Round Trip”.
